Make the Store Stronger
Store Manager Manual · page 10 of 12
Your job is not just to survive each day. A good manager gradually makes the operation easier to run.
Look for patterns
At least once each week, step back and ask:
- What kept going wrong?
- Who needs coaching and who is improving?
- What quality problem returned?
- What staffing concern is developing?
- What equipment or supply problem is coming?
- Where do vehicles keep getting stuck?
- What does the dealership keep asking us about?
- What problem required unnecessary rescue from leadership?
Then improve something. Teach a person. Clarify an expectation. Change a routine. Reorganize the work area. Address attendance. Stock up sooner. Fix the source of repeated rework.
You do not need to redesign the whole company every week. Make one useful thing better.
If the same emergency happens every week, you are not looking at five emergencies. You are looking at one unresolved management problem.
Never solve the same problem forever
Solve the immediate situation first. Then fix the condition that keeps producing it.
That may mean training, a better routine, a clearer standard, different preparation, equipment attention, staffing, or accountability.
The goal is not to become famous for fighting fires. The goal is to have fewer fires.
